John Gurwood (1788-1845) was the career soldier who proposed to the Duke of Wellington that his letters and dispatches should be published. This book gives, for the first time, an account of Gurwood's life, and describes the problem's that he faced in assembling, editing and preparing for publication the thousands of papers relating ot the Duke's campaign in India, the Peninsula, France and Belgium.
