Inspired by the wartime efforts of the author's father, 'Guns and Bugles' is the result of six years research. The book recounts the formation, training and Second World War service of the 181st Field Regiment RA (6th Bn KSLI). The 6th Battalion of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry was formed during the war and, after coastal defence duty, successfully re-trained and converted to a Royal Artillery Field Regiment of 25 pounders.
They were affiliated into the Battle Order of 15th Scottish Division as the only Field Regiment of English gunners. Landing in France 10 days after D-Day, and untried in war, the 15th (S) Div. became a spearhead Division, fighting from the break out of Normandy through all the major Battles and operations of North-West Europe into Germany and the Baltic coast.
